The Program
Literacy
Volunteers of Washington County uses the Laubaugh Way to Reading.
The program currently has 40 participating volunteers providing literacy
training for 36 students (above the age of 16) in Washington County.
That includes 10
foreign non-English adults who are taught English, GED Preparedness, and
Citizenship. Currently four students in the LVWC program are in the
process of completing their GED for a high school diploma.

You can make a difference!
|
As a
literacy volunteer you will receive tutor training through a series of
workshops, employing audio/visual presentations, demonstrations, and role
playing. These workshops will prepare you to teach one on one, or in small
groups. Then you will be matched with an adult learner and can meet with
him or her at a location convenient to both of you, such as a library, learning
center, school, or church. Your literacy student and you will determine
your own meeting schedule.
Other ways to
help
Lead tutor
training workshops - Plan and manage programs - Assist with administrative tasks
- Spread the news about the program to prospective tutors and learners -
Contribute tax deductible dollars to help with the cost of materials and
services needed to support the tutoring program.
